Kids & TV Study

Are you looking for a fun activity for your child to do while the weather is cold outside? Would they like to help us with our science and be the "star of the show" for 90 minutes? We would love to have them in our study. All children ages 6-11 are welcome to participate in our current study. By signing up for an appointment time, you and your child will be a huge help in advancing our research! Scroll down for more info on what the study entails and what you and your child can expect.

Further Information

What are the study procedures?

We are interested in how children respond to television shows, so your child will be asked to view 10-second children’s television show segments. After that, your child will sort pictures of people, tell us what they think about different types of people, try to guess the emotion on various faces, and indicate toy and activity preferences. You will be asked to identify the TV shows your child regularly watches and demographic information.

Where is the study located and how long will it last?

The study would take place in the Social Perception and Cognition (SPAC) Lab in the Psychology Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This study takes about 90 minutes of your child’s time once here, and about 15 minutes of your own time to complete the demographics survey.

As a thank you for participating in the study, your child will get to pick out a toy (~$10-15)! Is this something that you and your child would be interested in? If so, click here to sign up on one of our available appointment slots!

If you would like to hear more about our study or if you have any questions you would like answered before you sign up, feel free to email thespaclab@utk.edu or call our lab directly (865) 309-4033. We would love to hear from you!
